Carbohydrates: the best energy source
There are various kinds of carbohydrates, byt four are of particilar importance for an athlete. These are:
1.monosaccharides (glucose, fructose and galactose); 2. disaccharides (maltose, sucrose and lactose); 3. oligosaccharides (maltodextrins); 4. polysaccharides (starch:amylose and amylopectin, cellulose).
These 4 kinds of carbohydrates differ from one another in:a)the way they are digested; b)the way they are absorbed; c)the way they are burned in your body.
In general, all these carbohydrates are composed of glucose and/or other simple carbohydrate units. They either function primarily as an energy supplier or become part of the indigestible fibers... |
